JOHN HICKMAN

John Hickman is a working-class producer and writer based in North Shields, developing theatre projects with partners including the National Theatre. His television writing credits include EastEnders, The Dumping Ground, and BAFTA-nominated Silverpoint, while developing projects with the likes of the BFI, BBC, and Clerkenwell Films. Selected for prestigious mentoring schemes with Guiding Lights, BAFTA, and BBC Writers, his script "The Things" won the BAFTA Rocliffe writing competition. A former social worker with extensive experience supporting marginalized young people, John holds a PhD focused on the fictional portrayal of looked-after children. Growing up on a council estate in Wolverhampton, he is dedicated to bringing lower socio-economic voices to the fore, capturing their stories with empathy and authenticity.
